Book Review Round 2
/It's the end of the month which means it's time for another book review! For the month of May, we read Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Parish. Honestly though, I finished it in the first couple days because it was THAT. GOOD. Who else couldn't stop turning the pages?! Before I dive into my thoughts on it, here is a quick little glimpse of the book:
"Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He's a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newly weds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You're hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You'd like to get to know Grace better.
But it's difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable. Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn't work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows. Some might wonder what's really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed." - B.A. Parrish
If you're not already ordering this off Amazon or running to your local bookstore, ya need to. It was a quick paced read, full of twists, terror, and love. I couldn't get enough of it. It was another psychological thriller, like last months book (The Last Mrs Parrish), and felt so real while reading it. I could picture everything, and it even left me a little freaked out at times because of how realistic is seemed.
Here is what a few of you had to say about it as well:
@thesouthtrunk : "The writing was fantastic, the pace of the story was perfect and had a realistic vibe that made me think and almost gave me the chills. The story ends well. In spite of that, I have to say the ending felt a little rushed. At last you end up having a feel of reading a great intriguing thriller."
@its_kaaitlyn : "Behind Closed Doors was AMAZING. It took me 5 hours to read, I could hardly put it down!!!"
@tagriffin86 : "Just finished Behind Closed Doors. It was awesome. About to start The Last Mrs. Parrish!"
@mrsbuckets : "Behind Closed Doors is sooo good!! You should also read The Breakdown. It's the same author that wrote Behind Closed Doors! It's just as good! I read it in two days!"
Psychological Thrillers are kinda my jam right now, so up next for the month of June is..... (pause for dramatic effect).... The Breakdown by B.A. Parrish! I decided to do this one next because at the end of Behind Closed Doors, there are a few pages that allow you to get a glimpse of The Breakdown. Once I read those, I couldn't help but go pick it up! Plus tons of y'all recommended it βΊοΈ
Here's the gist:
"Cass has been having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods. It was on the winding rural road, in the middle of a downpour, and a woman was sitting inside - the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm, and she probably would have been hurt herself if she'd stopped. Not only that, her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home.
But since then, she's been forgetting every little thing. Where she left the car; if she took her pills; even the alarm code. The only thing she can't forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt. And the silent calls she's receiving, as well as the feeling that someone's watching her..." - B.A. Parrish
